That Works for Me!

Being an amateur blogger can be a little weird and unsettling. Every few days you sit down to write out what’s on your mind. Sometimes you may share a recipe, a tip that helps bring some order into the chaos you call life or you just might share what’s going on with your family.

There are no hard and fast rules to becoming a successful blogger so we come to rely on others as we find our way. We look for blogs and writers we like to follow, trying to either emulate them or learn from their successes and failures. Using tools like comments and analytics we try to determine our reach. Are we actually reaching people who care what we think? Is it possible we are standing on a stage giving a speech, only to realize we’ve been talking to ourselves for the last hour?

As a blogger who doesn’t make any money at this point (it’s a good thing I’m doing it for love isn’t it?) it can be difficult to measure my success. If I was making a lot of money I would be successful, right? Maybe, maybe not. Money is nice and certainly helps pay the bills, but as an amateur blogger recognition means more. Having a well respected blogger take a little notice of you and actually tell you that she likes some of your posts can be more thrilling than money.

A few months ago I received an e-mail from Kristen Welch at We are THAT Family. For those of you who may not know Kristen, she runs (with the help of her friend Maureen) a maternity house over in Africa. Mercy House is a safe haven for young, potentially abused, pregnant women who have nowhere to turn. All proceeds from her blog go to support Mercy House. In her e-mail to me she asked if she could use three of my posts that I had submitted to her “Works for Me Wednesday” link party in her new e-book.

Hmmmm, let me think about this. A well respected author in the blogging community wants me to be involved with her new e-book. A book, whose proceeds go to support a home for unwed mothers which is a charity that is near and dear to my heart. It took me all of about five seconds before I accepted. I did wait the full five seconds because how uncool would it be to respond immediately?

I felt a little like Sally Field accepting the Oscar “you like me, you really like me!” Ok, those weren’t the exact words that Sally used and I don’t know that I could go so far as to say everyone likes me. However, it is an honor to be included in a book with some truly gifted bloggers. I’m truly very grateful and honored to have been chosen to participate in this project.

With that being said the book That Works for Me! went on sale yesterday for $8. As a contributor Kristen has graciously supplied me with a coupon offering you a dollar off the sale price making your price $7. Outside of my small contribution, there are some great ideas and I would encourage you to check it out. You just never know what life altering tips or other interesting blogs you may find that can help simplify your life a little bit. Who knows, you may be able to maintain the illusion that you really are Wonder Woman just a little longer!

To purchase a copy of the e-book, Click here to visit wearethatfamily. and use the code SAVE1.  I purchased my copy this morning.  Over the next few days I'll be reading all the different tips and sharing some of my favorites with you.

To kick off the sale of her book, Kristen is also running a contest where she is giving away a certificate for $150 in house cleaning. To enter, all you need to do is click here  and enter a tip. I don’t know about all of you but I’ll take $150 in free house cleaning!

As if it can't get any better, Kristen has also given me a copy for me to give away.  There are several ways to enter, up to five entries per person.

1. Leave a comment below making sure I know how to get in contact with you
2. For an additional entry, “like” me on Facebook
3. For an additional entry follow me on Pinterest
4. For an additional entry follow me on Twitter (@wonderwomanimno)
5. For an additional entry sign up to receive my posts via e-mail (right hand side of blog)
The drawing will be held on April 20th, the winner will be notified by e-mail.

Good luck!

  1. To help a crying upset baby calm down. One that has been fed, burped, changed, swaddled, rocked and then repeated and is steal crying. I put a dilute drop of lavender essential oil on my clothing not near the LO face. And then while rocking ignore the LO crying (this is the hard part) and go through deep breathing and relaxation exercises. I have found as I relax usually the LO I am holding also relaxes. I have worked with many families and many children through out my life. And everyone who has children will say that I can make even the fussiest child fall asleep. The big hint I tell them is you have to relax your muscles and slow your breathing and your heart rate. I know it is Easier said than done.
